Things Are Looking Up For Canada’s Job Market

Job seekers, rejoice: the Canadian job market is on a steady incline! A recent article in the Toronto Star reveals encouraging information from Statistics Canada about the Canadian job economy. According to the article, a “jaw-dropping” 95,000 new jobs were created in Canada in May alone—that’s close to the largest single monthly gain ever recorded!

If you’re an Ontarian, you’re in luck. Over half of the jobs created (approximately 51,000) were in Ontario—good news, considering the province had previously fallen to its lowest unemployment rate since November, 2008.

Young Canadian job seekers can breathe a sigh of relief, too. Approximately 54, 400 jobs were created for people between the ages of 15 and 24. These temporary jobs include seasonal summer positions—something we think college and university students are thankful for.

While we welcome the news about the May increase in the Canadian job market, we can’t help but get excited about what this means for the Canadian economy in the long term. The article states that “since the depth of the global recession, Canada’s job market has steadily recorded solid gains.” At ABL Employment, we’re looking forward to helping employees find work in some of these newly available positions.
