Role Overview
Our client is seeking a seasoned Mechanical Department Manager to lead and grow their mechanical engineering team in Pittsburgh. This role combines technical leadership with operational oversight, focusing on delivering complex industrial piping and mechanical system projects. The ideal candidate will drive team performance, project execution, and business growth while fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:
– Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical engineers and designers.
– Oversee execution of multiple industrial projects from concept through completion.
– Plan and allocate resources efficiently across projects and proposals.
– Develop project estimates, schedules, and staffing plans.
– Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
– Ensure compliance with industry standards and best engineering practices.
– Monitor departmental performance, including budgets and utilization.
– Support business development efforts and maintain strong client relationships.
Qualifications:
– Professional Engineer (PE) license (U.S.) required.
– Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
– 15+ years of experience in heavy industrial engineering environments.
– 5+ years of leadership or team management experience.
– Strong expertise in industrial piping design and mechanical systems.
– Experience with engineering tools such as Caesar II, Pipe-Flo, or AFT Fathom.
– Solid knowledge of industry codes and standards (ASME, NFPA, API).
– Proven ability to manage complex projects from design through execution.
