On October 22, 2017, two ABL managers will participate in the Toronto Waterfront Marathon for the first time: Hayley Yurgan (Division Manager of ABL Careers) and Jeff Aran (Business Development Manager for ABL Employment/ABL Careers).

“This is one of the leading road races in the world, which has allowed participants to raise over CAD $8 million for over 550 charities in Canada in 2016 alone,” says Hayley, “and as someone who lives in the Toronto Waterfront neighbourhood, I appreciate that the event planners have put so much effort and care into running a green event that is mindful of the carbon footprint it produces.” In fact, the event has been awarded Silver Level Certification from the Council for Responsible Sport, recognizing their efforts.

Jeff will enter the Toronto Waterfront Marathon for the first time this year – something he has been training for and working towards for the better part of the last 9 months. “It says a lot about Toronto’s standing on the international stage of sports that this event has received the IAAF Gold Label Status 3 years in a row. I’m excited to be part of such a prestigious event right here in our own backyard, and that it will also be my first ever Gold Label Status event!”  Indeed, fellow Gold Label Status events include such elite company as the Boston Marathon and New York City Marathon.

To be awarded IAAF Gold Label Status means the event must meet exceptional standards set by the International Association of Athletics Federations, or IAAF. This includes the requirement that at least five men and five women from different nations be represented, and include participants with previous race times faster than the IAAF’s guidelines. It must use full electronic timing for generating race results, and be organised with minimal ecological damage to the race location and general area. A minimum of 12 anti-doping tests must be completed at the end of the race and the event must be open to participants of all abilities, including those in wheelchairs or those who may require a support person.

The race expects 25,000+ athletes in 2017, including participants from over 60 countries, and offers a Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5 KM race for participants of all competing levels.
